About the Artist

I am a Dorset based artist originally from South Africa. I studied art at Lawson Brown High School until I matriculated in 1997. After I left school I stopped painting altogether and moved to England in 1999 and had various jobs that took me travelling across the world. I decided to pick up my paintbrush again in 2013 after being commissioned to do a portrait for a friend. I realised whilst painting that picture how much I had missed painting and was fortunate enough to receive enough work on the back of that picture to establish myself as a professional artist.

Although I work in a variety of styles and mediums, I have had a lot of interest at present in my “Warhol” style portraits and work of cars racing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

I draw inspiration from a variety of sources but predominately I like to be inspired by the passion of my clients for the subject of their commissions. I have always admired the works of Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dali and Botticelli. I am also fortunate to have an arty family and have always been able to bounce ideas and draw inspiration from my brother, mother and late grandmother.

I have no specific direction for my work in mind, at the moment I am enjoying following the course that my commissions direct me in and the overwhelming images that flood my mind and sometimes just need to be painted. I prefer to keep my style of work fluid and ever changing, I don’t want to be tied down by expectation.

Art to me is exploration of both expressive and technical ability.
